Using The Choke Chain Training Collar

from: Kyle Besser

To most dog owners, a dog collar is a means of putting identification on a dog, a training device, a safety measure or a decorative item like jewelry. A dog collar can be any or all of these things, but a dog collar can also be a lethal device. The wrong dog collar may harm or even kill your dog.

There are pros and cons to the specialized features of many dog collars. It is the responsibility of the dog owner be knowledgeable about the appropriate use of any dog collar used on the dog. One of the most misused dog collars is the choke chain training dog collar. As the name implies, the choke chain training dog collar is meant to be used for training, but not as a regular collar.

The choke chain training dog collar is a perfectly safe, highly useful training device. The choke chain training collar becomes a threat to the dog's safety when it is used as a regular collar and left on the dog all the time, and it often is today.

Most people refer to the choke chain training dog collar using the shorter, more familiar name "choke collar." Many people think of the choke chain training dog collar as a collar and leave it on the dog all the time, but the choke chain training collar is not a regular collar. The choke chain training dog collar is a punitive training device used for correction purposes.

The word "choke" in the name tells all. Choke is what the choke chain training dog collar does. If the choke chain training dog collar gets snagged on something and nobody is around to help the dog, the dog can choke to death. A dog wearing a choke collar should never be left unattended.

Dog obedience classes are quite popular around the country, and the two most important training tools used in these classes are a leash and choke chain training dog collar. The choke chain training dog collar is meant to be used for the training of the dog, but many people leave the choke chain training dog collar on the dog as a regular collar. Most of these dogs are household pets, but their owners can't watch them every minute. Many dog owners may not even realize the danger of using a choke chain training dog collar as the regular collar.

Many people use dog choke chains as collars because they are neat, clean, odorless and attractive and choke chain training dog collars will stay that way for a long time. A better option would be a regular chain dog collar. Regular chain dog collars are safe and clean, and many good chain dog collars are available.
